Hmmm, well, that all depends on the type of paint that's on there. If it's a really cheap paint, no matter what you do it will leave a shine. Good paint that's washable all you need is warm water and a soapy clean cloth and wipe the fingerprints etc off. I think anything more than that, you will leave a shine no matter how good the paint is...unless it's gloss paint off course.

It's a nice business. I consider starting one to make some cash and to have someone to take care of my house.

Dry or Steam cleaning?
I like steam cleaning. The more steam the bettor. I usually clean at around 220 degrees. At that temp the wand pops when keyed. Very impressive.

Steam Carpet Cleaning and Dry Carpet Cleaning are equal?
Carpet Cleaning is a very skilled profession if you are providing high quality services. I use the dry cleaning method VLM. I have no complaints. I also do surveys; never less than an a rating. Some may say steam carpet cleaning is better. In some cases it's faster and the water may be hotter. But in Class we all learned. Less of one thing more of the other. So I can have my customer's carpets dry in less than an hour and I can remove most stains except set in dye stains and some of those I can remove. It is not necessary to steam clean if you know how to dry clean. It boils down to professional equipment, pricing, good customer service and the carpet cleaner. Choose your method and do it well! Hope I've helped.

Advantages/Disadvantages of Dry/Steam carpet cleaning:
Dry -
Pro: Well... the drying time
Con: Does not sanitize the carpet. Typically
"grinds" in the cleaning agents. May not fully
remove said cleaning agents/chemicals.
Steam/Hot Water Extraction -
Pro: The IICRC Standard. Will Sanitize. Will
remove all cleaning chemicals.
Cons: Drying time... unless the tech actually
knows what they are doing. A Rotovac Powerwand
will solve this problem, as it removes a good 20% more
water than a standard wand.

Another great thing about steam cleaners is that it is very cheap to use. You don’t have to use strong cleaning chemicals that can irritate your eyes and lungs when inhaled and you don’t have to put up with noxious odors when you clean your carpet. All you need is water from your tap and you are ready to steam clean your carpet or rug.

Steam cleaning with vaporized water is a relatively new concept to the American market

Though Dry cleaning takes less time, so saves time. So I think it is good for commercial purpose where every working second is valuable. But in residential purpose I think steam cleaning is better. Because it is more environmental friendly as well as safe for residents.
