If a pet has left a stain due to urination, vomiting or defecation, you’ll need to deal with it, immediately. You have to give the soiled area a good cleaning. This can be done with vinegar, which also makes a wonderful deodorizer, or mild dish soap. More on what needs to be done can be read here in detail which talks about getting rid of pet stains and odours.

Backing soda works if the stain is fresh (new). If it was there for years you need to use something more agressive.

Tips to Get Rid of Pet Stain:

Remove the excrement and blot in the affected area immediately.Apply detergent on to the cloth with enough firmness;mix together warm water and white vinegar;put several clean, dry, white towels over the stained area and heavy object over.
Finally, remove the towel and used a soft bristled hairbrush to raise the nap of the carpet.

Thanks

Default Spot or Stain

The difference between a spot and stain is time. Using a good enzyme fortified spotter and pre-spray is the first step. Pet stains or other types should come out. Some just take a bit more work.
This is a good article to read.

its really hard to get out pet stains from carpets especially when it is stained a long time ago...its good to get it off right away and then call a carpet cleaner after so that the carpet could look as new...
