I have a Rotovac 360 I use in my Portland carpet cleaning business. It works phenomenally!! Here is a video where you can see it in action:
Rotovac carpet cleaning
They are great because they are light, so you can use them on the stairs. They don't need a big motor, because they are like half the weigh of the RX20. They have a tile attachment that works great!
They separate and lift each fiber, helping to restore worn out crushed and matted carpets to like new condition. Wands can't do this. I tried all the Rotovac machines at the factory in Seattle and chose the 360.
You should have seen some of the carpets I restored using a portable and a 360!!!

Rotovac vs wand
I have the rotovac old style,RX-20 also rotary dry machine Hydramaster, and each has its own +& - . The rotovac needs the jets changed to much water. The RX -20 great for dirty units with a large truckmount, and the the rotarty dry unit is okey, but still use the wand the most. Jack Z.

Expensive cleaning tools
The first question is how much do you want to spend? The rotovac is the least than either of the hydramasters. All of these work the best with a truckmount.I have been cpt cleaning for the past 28 yrs. They all work well with different types of carpet. If you let me know what type of set up you use I will be happy to try and give you easy and simple advise.

been looking at getting a rotovac as they look to give really fantastic results. very hard to know what to do as this thread is now 3 years old so times have most likely changed!

In 30 years of carpet cleaning I have only had 1 complaint about the "V" marks that are left after wand cleaning. I think people take the marks as a symbol that the carpet has been recently cleaned. Or, maybe I write my "V's" better. Ha!

You should have both. The RV can make swirl marks on certain carpets.

when you clean carpets you'll put chemicals down to break down the dirt, then use a hot water extraction machine (steam carpet cleaning) to extract the dirt.

I recently had an oppertunity to use a new Roto vac 360 as a demo. It is a very aggresive cleaner yet very lightweight and easy to use. There are a couple of things I don't care for though.
#1 the power cord doesn't detach or unplug from the unit. #2 I don't like where the vac hose connects to the unit. It sometimes gets in the way. #3 the the power and the solution triggers are reversed from where I think they should be. A wand is quick and easy for small jobs, but for large areas or very dirty carpets I would easily recommend a Roto Vac 360.
