Upholstery Cleaning and Care
Upholstery fabric has to face a large amount of wear and tear in the average home; particularly if you have a large family. It is therefore important to keep it clean and well-maintained if you want it to last and continue looking good.
Just like carpets, your upholstery should be regularly vacuumed to prevent abrasive dust particles settling and causing damage. Dust settles as easily on upholstery as it does on hard surfaces, and so it should it should be vacuumed at least once a month.
Use the vacuum's upholstery and crevice nozzle attachments to reach into every nook. A brush will only disturb the dust and make it resettle elsewhere.
Using arm and headrest covers or throws will protect your upholstery from skin and hair soil, particularly in the summer when people wear less clothing. The downside of this being that it inevitably hides the furniture.
Rearrange the furniture and cushions from time to time so they retain their natural shape and get even exposure. Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from cigarette smoke and cooking areas, as these can all damage the fabric in various ways.
Hair, loose dirt and crumbs can be removed from upholstery by using a sticky tape lint remover. The same effect can be achieved by wrapping some sellotape to your hands and then pressing your hands over the furniture. The sticky method is preferable to a lint brush as it pulls up the weave of the fabric and pulls out the dirt, whereas the brush pushes it deeper in.
Another way to clean hair from upholstery is to wet a pair of rubber gloves and rub your hands across the furniture. It catches hairs and enables you to roll them into ball to easily dispose of.

upholstery Cleaning
Why should you opt for professional upholstery cleaning services?
Many home owners choose to clean the upholstery in their house by themselves. It saves money of course but it seldom helps in the long run. When upholstery is cleaned with the assistance of some self-help manuals and booklets, it might not only leave the job unfinished but also make the living atmosphere polluted and unhealthy. Professional upholstery cleaning is therefore now becoming more and more popular. There are different advantages that come your way when you opt for a professional upholstery cleaning service.
• It ensures a complete job with all parts of the upholstery cleaned.
• It prevents dust particles from accumulating in those parts that cannot be reached by an amateur.
• It keeps the atmosphere clean and pollution free.
• It reduces efforts and time and money too in the long run.
• It provides the upholstery and furniture a good appearance.
• It lets the furniture last longer.

I love it when people try to clean their own carpets. It makes them appreciate it when I show up with my 26K rig.

Personally, I've been experimenting with Procyon and a misting technique. I pre-treat with a Procyon/Deodorizer mix, let dwell, and then use the upholstery tool to mist the surface (preventing over wetting/saturation), and then vacuuming it. The results seem to be the same as if I were applying the upholstery tool directly onto the surface, and because I am not using as much water, it dries a LOT faster.

The more water and liquid cleaners you use, the more soaks into the upholstery, and can end up ruining the fabric. Try misting instead of spraying if using spray cleaner, and extract as much water as possible with a vacuum upholstery attachment. Also, avoid washing metal parts of furniture with water, as it encourages rust. Wiping furniture down with baby wipes works well, uses little water and soap, and also removes pet hair easily. In addition, you may want to turn on fans and open windows in the room to help the fabric dry.
