From what I have read, link exchanges don't give you any SEO benefit these days as search engines pick up on this. They can still give you some traffic though and this may be worthwhile if the site that you are trading links with is relevant.

One way links coming into your site are another story though and will help with SEO.

If you and another webmaster have multiple sites though you may be able to benefit by linking to one of their sites and then having them link to you from another one of there sites.

Check out this link for a list of all the factors influencing SEO, voted on by SEO experts. It is a long article but can help you immensely if you are promoting a site.

yes it's true. have a look here. this guy comes on this site to only get link exchanges with people, but people don't realise how bad it can be for their site and pointless these days. in the past maybe, but not any more and it's a huge risk. google "are link exchanges bad for seo" and find out for yourself.

Hi I want to exchange 3 WAYS LINKS with home cleaning related websites. I have a small directory with only 4 categories in each category I will place only 20 links per page (each category have only 3 pages). All websites are approved instantly.

PS: Now the 3 ways links is the only link with real value. If you have 1900 two ways links is the same that you have 10 three ways links pointing to your site.
The idea for SEO (at least for me) is appear in the first page in Google, Yahoo, Bing.
Here few examples:
If you search in Google the keywords "house cleaning London Ontario", "maid service London Ontario" the first website is "http://www.mdvhome.com" (I make the SEO of that website).

Other of the sites is ( www.mymaid.net) keywords"maid service Coral Springs", "house cleaning Coral Springs"
