Wow, didn't realize how much of this was happening! That's good to know. From what I understand though, if you posted the content first and have built your pagerank... the other content is not gonna rank so high, but I may be wrong about this.

Default "We aggressively protect our intellectual property rights."

I echo what many have said. Copyscape is great. I go a step further and add the following below the copyscape graphic: "We aggressively protect our intellectual property rights."

The company (and I hesitate to call them a company) that copied some of our content had even used my and my husband's names in their metatag. Many problems with a couple of companies copying our stuff, but this one company in particular.

Yup, copyscape is the best, in my humble opinion.

Copyscape is great... I've had people try to steal our full ebooks and resell them... crooks are lazy... this one "gentleman" didn't even bother to try and hide the fact he was selling our product -- blatant! I started a civil process against him (him Cali, us GA) and threatened him via formal cease and desist... he took down the site, apologized and sent us requested funds to cover damages to avoid the suit and criminal charges... nothing worse than a thief. Go at them hard and strong... cyber IP litigation has a ways to go to catch up to brick and mortar IP lit, but effective legislation is pouring in quickly as e-publishing becomes mainstream for the larger houses... Protect your words! Good luck!

Default How to handle thiefs!

I used to sell on ebay and had a guy copy my entire auction so I reported it and ebay did nothing so since I had the images for the auction on my site I changed the photos with some really disgusting porn and little signs saying things like "I am a thief I stole this auction and images."

Well needles to say when all these really bad porn pictures (No nothing illegal) ebay had him take down the auction. I got a nice little apology from the guy that said he did not know that he could not do that. We actually had a good laugh and I helped him sit up his own site where he could host his own pictures!

It was not really nice but he did it on a really bad day for me.

I just found a site the other day that was 80% copied from mine. In my area at that. I called the guy and he said he had nothing to do with it it was the SEO company. Well it took this guy 2 days and all is taken down.

indianagreensteam: You could only do that cause he linked directly to your images.

Default This is true.

But like I said we ended up becoming friends so it is just a funny little story.

The point of it was eBay who says that this is not allowed would do nothing until I took drastic actions on my own. I always had images on my own site for ebay because they charge a fortune to host them for you.

i wouldn't worry too much about someone copying your website. as mentioned google are fairly good at detecting this, so as long as your site has been around for a few months then you'll be fine and google will punish the website owner. unless you find that you search on google for your company and you're coming up near or even below the website that's copying your information it's almost not worth any time as you wont be losing any work.

thing is, unless as you say you were like the number one site every one in the area goes to so everyone would see the notice, you're actually helping her by linking to her website, so she will be gaining in serp whilst you'll be possibly losing ever so slightly by linking to her site.

No worries, we were not linked long (just over 30 hours I believe) she was embarrassed at the thought of being pointed out as a content thief and she took my information off immediately at which time as promised I removed the link to her

Plagerism is a big concern for many people who outsource their work on both websites and the real world and as efficient as programs can be, i do have some concerns about the process of content certification, i.e the process of authentication of the content because we know that programs can be fooled.
