Changing carpets

I am just curious, how do you decide when your carpet needs to be changed? Apart from the occasions when it is severely damaged. Are ten years too much for a carpet?

When I stop like it and can't stand it anymore means it's time to change

But what if after six years the carpet still looks fresh? I think that maintaining it regularly, will prolong its life.

to carpet or not to carpet..thats not the question

I prefer tile or hardwood. I think it depends. Is it some nice avocado green and orange shag? If not, I'd say get new carpet every 7 years. I call it the 7 year dust mite itch

Haha. Is it something like the so-called crisis of the seventh year in the relationships?

I seriously dont like carpet. I grew up in the south and that's all we had really. I don't have allergies but my poor brother was cursed with 70 something percent reaction to everything they test against. I also had a friend with the same condition. He removed the carpet in his house before his senior year and low and behold ...... no more allergies! So, the moral to the story is, unless its avocado green and orange shag its not worth it. In my humble opinion of course.

I don't have expensive carpets, so i don't worry that much for carpet cleaning. When I have guests I don't mind if they like to keep it clean, but i can change the carpet whenever I decide, too. Just because it is cheap. For those of you who still enjoy cleaning on their own here is some useful information. http://tips.cleaninghouselondon.co.uk/domestic-cleaning-tips/all-carpet-cleaning-problems-solved
