Its all on how you look at it,

The hot water that is used has steam that is produced. This is where the steam part comes from, as a reference.

It is also called Warm Water Extraction and only carpet cleaning that classified as "deep cleaning" because it requires they are capable of removing soil deep in the pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank.

I think it depend on the caller what would he/she prefer to call this equipment. But technically this equipment really uses warm water in cleaning.

Steam cleaning/Hot water extraction is one of the best methods of carpet cleaning. This method deeply cleans the carpet.Water is sprayed to force dirt out of the carpet which is sucked up by the vacuum slot immediately.

Thanks,
with regards
