Silk Shrug Carpet Cleaning Tips?

What's the best way to clean a silk shrug carpet? I used a vacuum a few times and it basically deformed the shrug look and left my brand new carpet looking old :( Any tips?

  • Cleans stains immediately before they set in and attach to the silk fibers.
  • Gently scoop solid debris from the rug using a spoon, but take care not to scrape the fibers of the rug. Any scraping motion may tear the silk fibers.
  • To remove liquid spills, apply a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water to remove stains. Pour the vinegar and water solution on a clean cloth and blot the stain. Use a dry cloth to absorb the excess solution and allow the area to air dry. Do not use heat to dry the area.

Silk rug fibers are extremely gentle, so you should NEVER scrub the rug with a brush, because you will destroy the texture of the fibers (sometimes permanently!). I would suggest a light sweep with a broom or if it has to be vacuumed, use only the vacuum’s brushless suction head

Lightbulb Shop Vac

I would recommend a shop vac for vacuuming. They sell attachments for flooring the do not agitate the fibers. It would be quite a bit louder than a normal vacuum but would be typically cheaper and would save your expensive carpets.

If it is very precious to you, then getting professional help will be your best move, I think. Still, if you are a DYI-er, you can check WikiHow, there is a thread on this matter/

Frequent vacuuming might be too much for such a delicate carpet. A good old shake and sweep is okay to remove solid particles, dust and dirt if the carpet is not too dirty.

Also vacuum from side to side and not from end to end, to keep the shape. Once a year, you also need to take the rug out and vacuum the back to remove any dirt that's been trapped underneath.
