Tips for carpet cleaning

Eighty percent of stains can be removed using plain tap water. To remove a stain, press a clean, dry, white cloth over the stain to absorb the spill. Repeat until the spill is absorbed. Then gently work water into the stain with a damp white towel and blot until the stain is gone.

Cleaning the carpets in your house is essential so you can keep them looking fresh and new. I am very fond of steam cleaning. This procedure involves a cleaning solution that is injected under pressure into the carpet with water-jet nozzles. This way you will remove any oil, grease deposits and for sure make your carpets look cleaner. I recommend you do that every six months at least.

If you decide on having a professional carpet cleaning, you also need to prepare for that as much as you can to make it more efficient. Like removing fresh and obvious stains and dirt.

Cleaning out your carpet is can be an arduous chore, My suggestion is that you use a automated vacuum cleaner robot to do it for you on a regular basis and wash out the stains on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.

Chemicals and health

I do feel that there is a real neglected area in the cleaning industry and that is the liberal use of chemicals. If excessive chemicals are used then kids play on the carpet afterwards and this could make them ill.

I will summarize a few tricks for cleaning carpets:

1. Baking Soda
• Best way is to sprinkle the powder over the stain and leave it for at least 3 hours or overnight for best results. Then just vacuum the spot and the dirt will be gone. Baking soda gently works over your carpet as it softens the stain and moreover it eliminates bad odours.
• For worst stains use a cleaning cloth to carefully scrub the carpet spot with just a little amount of warm water. Then put a thin layer of baking soda on the spot and leave it to dry. Vacuum the area afterwards.

2. Dishwashing Detergent

The degreasing agent will work the same way on your carpet as it does on your dishes. It will remove the grease with its degreasing strong power.
Just spray little amount of the detergent on the greasy spot and leave it for 20 minutes. Then blot the spot up.

3. Shaving Cream
All you have to do is to put some amount on the stain and leave it for 20 minutes. Then use a dry cloth (make sure the cloth is white!) to blot. You have to do just one final step and you are ready. Spray the spot with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water. Let it set for 5 minutes. Using a new cloth wipe away this solution.

It’s important to take dirt off the carpets before it has any chance to absorb into the fibres and do damage. It’s a good idea to vacuum twice a week if you can manage, but once a week should be your minimum.

With stain I think use solvents such as gasoline, acetone to dissolve it then wipe with a clout.
