Getting Stains out of Grout
Hi Friends,
This topic has come up again and again. I'm hoping that this thread can be the be all end all on the topic of cleaning and removing stains from grout. The topic is covered extensively in this web tutorial: remove-stain.com/get-stains-out-grout The coverage in the article is a fantastic starting point. I'm continuing to collect information on this topic for our domestic and commercial customers. Any other ideas? |
There is also a bunch of information you can get by searching the web, but the quality is generally low.

The grout should be sealed on a regular basis. Prior to sealing, the tile should be cleaned thoroughly and dried completely. Perfectly sealed grout and tile repels moisture and also protects the floor from stains as well as discoloration. You should take advice from the manufacturer, regarding the type of tile and grout sealant.

We lived in an old condo while we were building our house and the grout was DISGUSTING. I tried everything, and not much worked. The best that I came up with was Comet with bleach in a paste that set for several hours and then scrubbed with steel wool. It helped, but it didn't fully restore the light color.
