Finding Leads

So I've been looking on this site for advice on finding project leads and haven't seen much of anything. The approaches I have come across thus far are as follows:

1. Google top GC's in your area and cold calling one by one
2. Filling out Pre-Qualification forms
3. Stopping by jobsites and handing out cards, donuts in the morning, name and handshake etc etc.
4. Anyone you may possibly know in the construction field..word of mouth, reference to someone else etc.
5. Construction magazines- Free subscriptions
6. Construction organizations that you can join for an annual fee-events leading to possible contacts.
7. Online Databases of current and up coming projects with detailed information-monthly fee.

These techniques are all good and have worked well, however, I'd like to find a FREE source for current projects in my area with the detailed information. If anyone knows of a secret technique or some method that is not listed above and works great, please let me know!! haha thanks

Free is often worth what you pay for it. You could use Craigs List I suppose. Don't be surprised at the clientele there though.

Have you tried a leads generator such as Service Magic?

Ken,

Haven't heard of Service Magic but I'll definitely take a look. I guess what answer I'm really looking for is if the project lead finders are really worth it or not? I can see how you would save a lot of time and gas money. Have you or do you know anyone that has used one and had success? I appreciate your help.

I have a buddy that also owns an interior cleaning business. He mentioned ot me that Service Magic was good for residential leads. SM is the big boy on the block. I persnally would never do business with them but that should not hinder you from exploring what your acquistion cost will be acquiring leads and plug that into your own business model.

Gave Service Magic a call today-only deal with about 5% percent commercial which is what I primarily do. Bid Clerk seemed to be a good one..they give you hundreds of projects going up in your area and you can get a full refund within three days. I'll probably give that a shot. Thanks again!
