Getting quick dry spackle off hardwood, any suggestion?

Hello all.

I clean just on a part time basis for a few people, but a neighbor has asked me to help them out with some construction cleanup on their house. They had new walls put in and from what I can tell the spackleing crew tore through the drop cloths in the first five minutes and kept going everywhere.

There are multiple smears of quick set (green lid) joint compound on the hardwood floors. The floors are old and can't take another refinishing but I'm not having luck getting the spackle up. I've tried murphy's oil soap but I don't want to scrub too hard in case I'm rubbing off the finish (due to the abrasive nature of the spackle).

Any suggestions or tips here?

Good luck with that.......some of those finishing compounds are hard to get off tools.

I bet someone around here has an idea....:whistling2:

I am not an interior cleaning expert so take this with a grain. You can usually just use warm water to soften and remove it. The caveat there is that too much warm water can raise the grain in wood. It all depends upon how it is finished.

A drop of Lemon Oil

I have had great luck with a Drop or two of lemon oil (depending upon the size of the spackle) Put it on let it dwell a few minutes and it usually softens up. NO worries about water on the hardwood.
