stucco on glass

Currently, I use either white vinegar or phosphoric acid to help relase the grip stucco has on glass. I have heard others use muriatic (hydrochloric) acid. I am curious who does so and what are the results.

I ask because suddenly we have glass that simply cannot be touched without scratching. So, now my only option is to try and disolve the stucco.

Thoughts?
