Help!!!! Trouble With Plastic On Exterior Windows

I am doing a post construction clean up and all was going well until I went outside to do the exterior windows. I live outside of Chicago and it is still pretty cold out here, mid 40's and wind chill colder.

I went to pull off the plastic on the windows it will not come off or should I say it comes off in little pieces unlike the whole sheet like inside.

Two Questions:
1. What is causing the plastic to come off in little peices and leaving a sticking residue.

2. How do I remove the plastic and residue?

The razor blade really is not working. It would take all day to remove the plastic film this way, especially with 17 windows to do.

Please help if you have any suggestions.

Thank you!!!!!!!

plastic stuck to window

That sucks! You could try putting a solvent on the window like Oil Flow. What size of window cleaning scraper are you using? For speed, I like using the 6 inch scrapers. I wish they made larger ones. That's really strange that they are stuck on. If it's in the 40's temperature wise then they are not frozen. If they were frozen you could just apply warm water.

I find that oil flow and goo gone work well but are not nearly as fast acting as, say, goof off. However goof off is a lot more vaporous. I use a respirator whenever I am using goof off - but it works.

Try goof off using a respirator, and some white abrasive pads made for glass.

Hey whats going!? Got Plastic on the windows in cold weather? Job is probably done by now, but I am sure it took you a while. Next time use a potable steamer to get plastic, vinyl, glue or anything else.
