license for exterior cleaning & sealing?
My husband & I are starting a business that cleans & seals exterior surfaces. Right now we're focusing only on garage doors -- cleaning by hand and sealing with a clear liquid "plastic."
Do we need a California Contractor's license for this? what classification?
I've checked out the Contractor's State License Board website. Their publications say:
"All businesses or individuals who construct or alter . . . any building . . . or other structure in California must be licensed . . . if the total cost of one or more contracts on the project is $500 or more."
It's the word "alter" that has me concerned. I'm wondering if the state thinks that putting on a sealer is considered "altering".
I received a "request for information pack" from a company we want to do work for. If we don't need a contractor's license, they want to know why. Any thoughts on what to say?
