Ahh, did you make the same mistake I did, and give them your information online? They called and called and finally gave up.

I may have signed up and been grandfathered in but I registered for contractor.com. It was free. There is no recurring fee. The leads I get are detailed telling me where, what the job is, the customers budget and how many other contractors are receiving the lead. If I want to, at that point, I purchase the customer's contact info.

It might be worth doing a quick search on www.ContractorTalk.com as well. Lots of good feedback there too.

I found that once I got a successful website and did some cost per click advertising on some search engines most customers found me online anyways. In face I was charged for several leads where customers had already contacted me through my own website.
I got talked into it, never again!

It may be OK for someone w/o the web precense we have ?
I found the leads to be stale, and infested with Ultra Shoppers who shopped everyone else, and "waited" for the Service Magic contractors to respond.

Often, using Service Magic we talked to the same customer we had spoken to weeks ago from our other ad's.
And, had to pay for it too.

Thank God we got into our field when we did, when there was comparatively little competition.

Unfortunately, there IS no "magic bullet" in this business.

I always tell people to never lie to yourself.

IF you cannot cold call customers, and/or network you ain't gonna be around, for long.

Don't believe it ?

Just pick up a 5 year old Yellow Pages and see who is still around ?

Many do not make it in our business.

To think one can just "put an ad in the Yellow Pages, or hook up with Service Magic", and watch the dollars flow in is in my opinion delusional.

I have a web site and also use Service Magic. Most of my business is gutter cleaning and the leads have been great. My close ratio is about 90% and the cost is no issue at all to me. I close the deals over the phone and it has helped me stay busy all the time. My sales background and very fast follow up may be what helps. I know that my prices are not cheap and some times on the high side, but I find most are just trying to get some one to resolve the problem and when some one calls if friendly and interested in getting the information to help them, I get the deal. It has helped me start and stay in business and I could not be happier. When a lull shows up in comes a new lead and the schedual gets filled up.

I have had SM for over a year in the Greater Richmond, Northern Neck of Virginia area. I received one lead & did not get the job. I contacted SM and they stated they really do not receive any requests in the zip codes I gave them. (cover 70 miles)

I am also on contractors.com & never received a lead. I guess people in my service area don't use this type of service

We have had wonderful success with Service Magic - I believe there is a certain trick to making it work....like a very narrow scope of work. I never have a problem getting someone on the phone to correct a lead and be credited. We love them!

Everycontractor.com on the other hand is the single biggest rip-off scam on the planet! They can't provide the leads they promised and after six months of hounding - won't refund my money as per their contract!!!

Hello,
My name is Carlos. I used to Use Service Magic, Until I was contacted from Local Outrank then they told me how Service Magic Just came up on the first page of the search results.... they told me why not have my own website so people can just call me directly. So I tried it and wow it's a lot better than paying per lead to get disconnected numbers and people that won't pick up the phone. Having a customer call you Directly is PRICELESS. Here is the rep that signed me up contact information, contact him he is great!!!

Service Magic keeps calling for cleaning bids.

Anyone have a recent success with Service Magic. I do know they are on rip off report.

I have tried service magic many times and in my opinion it is a waste of money. But you will land at least 1 out of every 4 leads. Of course, 1 out of every 4 leads is also a number that doesn't work. I would spend that money on a google adwords campaign before service magic.

I think that instead of using service magic and adwords it's better to invest money in a few websites and seo. Having few websites on the first pages will make more money than service magic and adwords together

Good advice! Thank you both very much. I need to optimize my website and other methods I'm still exploring.

What About Groupon and Metro Guide.

As stated Service Magic is a love/hate relationship but for us it works great! We do carpet cleaning and roughly land 7 out of 10 leads and mold remediation and we land 8 out of 10 for that. Carpet cleaning is a slim profit margin so leads had better be good or we would opt out of that portion of lead generation quickly. Mold is high cost per lead but the returns are better.

All in all we do better with our advertising money going to ServiceMagic than any other advertising media we have found.... JMHO
