Baking Soda on Stainless

Is there any consensus on using baking soda to remove the film from glass cleaners on stainless appliances? I have been experimenting in my own home after getting a steam cleaner. I applied a paste of baking soda in the direction of the stainless grain, rinsed the fridge, steamed, then squeegeed. WORKED WONDERS, no tough scrubbing to remove the streaking from glass cleaner buildup. Before I get too excited I want to see if anyone has had a bad experience or if they know something about using it that I don't.
