How to seo by using image?

Hi friends,
We're familiar to seo by keywords for top Google Ranking, but not by images. In my opinion, seo by images is less competitive than by keywords. What do you think about it? And how to seo by images effectively?
Any feedback is appreciated!

Its really important to make sure you name the images in a way that the search engines can identify what the images are.

There are a few tips here:

Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere.

Also use videos and post on youtube with link and metatags to your website. Best embed videos on website.

YouTube now owned by google also ranks higher if you have videos with appropriate information. So also tag tour video withan adequate description.

I've found that blogs are a great way to learn info about SEO and SEM (search engine marketing)

It is worth knowing that Google have their own blogs too:

The alt tag is probably handled by Google the same way a text tag is.
Not having a good description of the picture in an alt tag means you are ignoring people with eye problems.

The picture can be in a hot spot that links to something but unless it is relevant and on your site it will drag people away.

The alt tag is the best solution since it's intended purpose is to tell somebody what the image is.

I have never actually heard of SEO using images. I understand the competition may be less because a lot of people aren't doing that. But are people not using this method because its not effective, or because most people don't know about it? I'm just curious as to how useful it actually is.

Often image to websites are loaded named as random numbers or combination with letters. Google remember has an image search function and so I believe that naming an image with keywords will help SEO.

Keywords should also be used in my opinion with videos and links to the website on the description of you tube video.

Here is the link to Google Keyword tool

Using Alt tags for images is good practice too - it is supposed to be good for SEO, though I'm unsure how - maybe Google picks up on these descriptions? But also for accessibility, as screen readers take these descriptions to read them out to visually impaired.
