Smelly carpets

I live in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. I got great deals on carpets in a flea market. The carpet seems fine. The carpet is warm and gives a rich look. But soon after the rain, I noticed the carpet is damp giving a wet stinking cloth smell. I removed the carpet and found the other side wet and sticking to the wood. I removed it all. The smell is lingering. I tried cleaning with fragrant lotions, but the as soon as it dries off, the stinking smell is back.
I need help.

I am advising you go to same shop in flea market and tell your problems i hope so they know the exact solution of your problem. Kindly get to know precaution and cleaning ideas from your nearest laundry / carpet cleaner. do not experiments on carpet or Rug because these are expensive.

Patchwork Rugs, Silk Rug, Round Rug in New Zealand.

Wet soggy carpets always smell. If you kept the carpet then dry it out with a strong fan or a blower (you can rent these) after it's been cleaned.I would not use ANY soap when you clean the rug.Use an extracting method and get as much water out as possible.
Finish drying with a fan.

There are professional odor eliminators that you can purchase through Amazon.

Go to Amazon and type in the search bar:odor removers for home.

Another reasonn I would never install carpets in my home.

But I think the real question is why and how your floor got so wet??? If not from a ceiling leak, it got wet below your house, and this will have to be fixed.
