Business Fax Numbers

For those of you who do fax marketing, how do you get your numbers? I have an older copy of SelectPhone, but they don't list fax numbers. Did a web search and found this, but the listing is limited. Nice little resource tho...

Are you talking about sending out mass faxes to people like someone would send out mass email? This has always made me made when people did it to me because unlike unsolicited email or even mail I pay for the ink and paper that the fax uses.

I thought it was a no no. Kinda like spam email, but then when I look at the regulations here it says spam is bad unless you put all of your information in the email and also start the main header with ADV for advertisement. I got so lost so I don't even bother. There are a few I would like to email, but then I don't need the hassle. Now faxing I think would get exspensive for the receiver of it. What do I know though LOL

Well, I'm not going to fax them every week...though I do know of someone who has gotten a lot of work that way.

Just curious that's all. Would be nice to quit having to wear out sneakers. Though it's the best for advertising and exercise, unless you live where you do and it's hot. Hard to deliver at night. Fax away

Yea, I have a real problem with this. My brother is a Realtor and hands out his business card to anyone and everyone. Before too long he had to shut off his fax machine which hurt his business because if he was out and someone needed to fax him something he had to get home and turn it on before they could. However when he kept it on it cost him $20/week in ink and paper because of the spam faxes.

I think there are better ways to win jobs frankly. Just my opinion.

Yeah it's something I never wanted to try just like mass Email. I just do not need the problems and since I hate it I know the receiver would also.

Now Nathan may I fax you over a couple of black sheets of paper or all color?

You laugh but that is exactly what some of them were. People would fax all back pages with white letters to make it "stand out"

Anyways, they have efax lines now that take the scanned image and put it in your email as a PDF format. This works well because you can just print what you like.

However I still think it can give you a black eye in the long run. I've seen whole grass roots campaigns against companies around here for using road signs and such. It can defiantly backfire.

That is funny. I would flip if I had an all black page with white letters.

I am not against it all together if it is done with lettering at a minimum. Something like I am sure Mike would be doing.

Well, if 100 companies do it to you it doesn't matter how little is on a page. It still costs you money.

I just dont' like the idea of making a potential customer pay for my advertising. And that is exactly what you are doing. They pay for paper, ink, and any missed faxes from valuable customers they may have.

Believe me I see your point. I guess I would see it way differentally if it wasn't all through my computer. Faxes come in and stay where I can read them then print them off if needed.

Yea, then it is basically email spam but most people don't have it set up that way.

I can see both sides of the issue...I'm not decided on whether to go that route or not.

I suppose mailing is better, and won't tick anyone off. Just more work in getting it all prepared, and of course more costly, but if I figure 200 businesses, that's only $78.00 per mailing, and I can get a full color eye catching advertisement in their hands, as opposed to a black and white fax.

Doesn't Ron Musgraves do a lot of faxing?
I know he has a huge operation, so he must know what he's doing.
Ron, if you're lurking- Chime in!

I wonder how much the effectiveness of different advertising depends on the area you are in.

When I evacuated to Beaumont, TX last year I was talking to a couple of landscapers who had booming businesses. They got started by knocking on doors and handing out flyers in neighborhoods.
They were surprised that I was sceptical because everyone from lawn maintenace guys to maid services to whatever did that.
If you tried that here at the very least you would get doors slammed on you and someone calling the cops is likely in most neighborhoods.
