Are flyers still effective?

When marketing a cleaning business, I know how important SEO and online marketing can be. However, there is only so much SEO I can do and at the moment I believe I only have 26 twitter followers (very new business, less than 2 weeks old).

Tomorrow or the next day I plan on painting the town red with flyers. I want to hit pharmacies, grocery stores, libraries, bars, coffee shops, etc.

Is this a good idea? Are flyers a viable way to market your cleaning business? I will have pull-off tabs with my website and phone number. Have you had any experience with flyers?

I'm not sure doing flyers that way was ever effective......?? Flyers on bulletin boards and posted on store windows went out in the late 90's...... first it was desk tops that took over and now it has evolved to smart phones with everything you ever wanted to know. Why spend time looking on a bulletin board when you can google it, is what this generation says. But who knows.... you might luck out and get a couple of customers from it. It's easy and doesn't cost but a couple of cents so what could it hurt? I know of a way to grab attention.... put a picture of a cat on the front and people will think it's a lost cat.

I'm not sure whether it could be really efficient but you can try if you have some extra money. The more channels of communication you use the better. But I would also concentrate on online-marketing, there are so many tools to use. Also you may post your ad on some websites such as HireRush. There is a list of ads of professionals who offer different services. It is for free and this could be one more channel for you to reach your target audience, so why not to try it.
Here it is:
I wish you luck in your promotion!
