Wow. Sounds like you've got yourself a nice little niche there.
There's some good money out there right now. I can tell you that from personal experience. But of course, I'm not going to spill the beans.
:-)
Let me start this off by telling a short story from my neighborhood. I live on the outskirts of town, and there was a small farm very close to here. 2 years ago, a guy bought the farm for about $1,000,000. Just one year later, he wound up selling it to someone else for 10 million.
How did this plot of land increase 10 times in value in just one year? The buyer had some inside information. He knew that a company was currently raising capital to build a mall at this site, and he acted quickly to scoop up the property.
Good information is a valuable commodity. Even if the buyer had paid $100,000 for that one tip, it was well worth the effort.
So here's how this relates to your situation.
It sounds like you're fairly new to the industry. What I would suggest is speaking to your target market. Get a foot in the door with someone who would buy these types of services, and be super-nice. Maybe even offer a bribe.
I had a market research company once send me a survey with a $10 bill inside. I felt so guilty that I was compelled (Through emotional blackmail) to complete the survey and send it in. I'm sure 75% of people just took the money and trashed the survey.
If the information is that valuable, and you're committed to being successful in this business, I think it's worth the spend.
