new domains are coming out (.cleaning) - what do you think?

Hey guys!

I've heard about new top-level-domains coming out in these days and months. Some of them have been released already, like .club, .sexy, etc.
One thing that caught my attention was that there will also be .cleaning domains available soon. What do you think about these? Would you consider getting one? Can't decide if this is a good idea or not

For me, it's one extra thing people have to remember if they're typing in your address unless you route your .com name directly to your .cleaning name but at that point will people even notice? Just my .02

How much is it to purchase your cleaning service with a .cleaning? If it is the same or close to a typical .com, I would do it. You do not know what architecture or process will be developed that will include .cleaning and you might as well be ready if something novel happens.

If I would of explained how Twitter works before it happened you likely would of scoffed, as would most reasonable people. I still think it is strange, but clearly it is successful. You do not know what the future will be like ... purchase the .cleaning!

Here is an in depth article I wrote on using social media with your cleaning company.

I really think it's best to stick with the well known ones, at least for a while. You don't want to confuse your potential customers.

It looks like it's $39.99/yr. on Godaddy.

Personally I would never want to LEAD anyone to my website. If I am leading them anywhere I would want to LEAD them to the other end of my phone so I can talk to them and make money from them instead of them just browsing my web site. Maybe that's another reason I never needed customers... we usually had too many.

Now as far as being FOUND on the internet, it doesn't make a different what comes after your dot. It could be .pterodactyl and it wouldn't really matter. If it tickles your inside to have .cleaning then go for it because if you use the web site correctly it really doesn't matter and if you don't use it correctly it doesn't really matter either. lol

in January I made my friend a site for his lawncare business. In the Dallas area the competition for mowing is suppose to be more ferocious than anywhere else. Well, the name he wanted was taken so he just HAD to go with a .net so he could still have his company name. 3 weeks later if you looked under affordable lawncare, reliable lawncare and reliable mowing I had it to the 2nd position on the first page. It would sometimes go down the page a little but it stayed on the first page. And it didn't matter if he used .com or .net it matters on how you make your site.

Anyone can get a site to the 1st page of google. For example if I type in cleaning talk it brings up this website on the first page. But if I didn't know about cleaning talk how would that be possible? Now if I'm searching for residential cleaning message boards it might be a whole different story. Just like YOUR cleaning web site. If someone knows your www. they can find you every time but if they are looking for a reliable cleaning service in your town they type in reliable cleaning service your town usa. Go ahead and type it in for your town... are you there? If not, that's why your site doesn't bring in any calls. That's why it's useless to SEND people to your site.... if they know about you let them CALL. Use your site for people who don't know about you to FIND on google.

People will always remember the .com imo. The new domains might be good for PPC maketing landing pages but for general use .com will always be king. Followed closey by cctlds like .ca .us etc

I understand that .com is the best and ultimate name for any business, but I do not think that it will be difficult for someone who is looking for cleaning service to remember cleaning name. I am sure they can remember it and as we know many good names with existing extensions are not available so it would be a good opportunity to get your favorite name with your niche domain extensions and yes, the price may be a factor.

Nobody who is NOT in the cleaning business is going to remember .clean or .scrub or .whatever. Everyone, always, everywhere, types in YourName.com. Always. And why would you spend more than ten dollars for a domain name anyway? Assuming you've got the .com you can buy the .fancything as well, and just point both domains at your site. But no, customers are not going to look for that. They even search for porn with .com, not .xxx.

Some web browsers aren't quite picking up the new domains from my understanding. Anyone else hear this? .Clean for example..

I would stick with the .com as that s what 99% of people are familiar with, and you don't want to have to make your customer work to find your business. Its hard enough to have to remeber your business name, let alone the URL and a special ".cleaning" extension. Stick with what people know.

Agreed. Forget those and stay with .com Doesn't help you and will create confusion among people trying to search. Consider someone remembering my carpet cleaning url of pacificsteamco.com and make it pacificsteamco.cleaning Most people will think it is pacficsteamco.cleaning.com and they will never find you.

I always think .coms are the best. .net sounds cheesy and anything else is just plain confusing for most folks.

From my own experience, the .com always get fast ranking than others. People tend to trust a .com the most.

I must say it is better to use global .com version of a website. An instead of putting of money into purchase of that domain, invest the same money into website design and content developing and marketing strategy or even paid marketing can boost website motto.

I am on the the new GTLD band wagon personally. I bought a few .cleaning, .company, .services and I am testing them out. As far as ranking I am pretty sure any extension can rank just as well as .com with the right on and off page SEO.

As far as a client remembering the URL what I have done is bought a .com and forwarded it to a .cleaning so I can use the .com for marketing purposes. I am using the .cleaning for the SEO purposes. But I am not so much concerned about clients remembering my URL as I am clients finding me on search engines. In my humble opinion, soon .com will never be as good as a GTLD with a specific keyword because .com holds absolutely no keyword search relevance. For example, when you are searching for "carpet cleaning company phoenix" and you owned a .company domain. The .company will show up as a keyword because the searched phrase had company in it. But the .com represents no keyword what so ever in that phrase.

I personally think in the future, the GTLDs will be necessary with the abundance of websites on the web. That search engines will use the extensions to categorize the web sites better.

Here is an example of the domain forwarding I got: www.CleanCarpetsPhoenix.com forwards to www.PhoenixCarpet.cleaning

Again, this is just an opinion and I don't know what Google or other search engines are going to do. And frankly, if anyone says they do they are full of it! But its also a good way to pick up Premium domains that would never be available in .com.

.com is always the best, all others are only confusing users even if it shouldn't
