Steel Wool NOT Suggested for Marble Floors
Steel Wool was ONCE used with a fluorocarbon liquid spray for marble floors. It creates extremely high heat and vitrified the top layer, turning it to glass. This created an extremely high gloss finish, but the problem is that it completely sealed the pores of the marble.
This is a problem as marble needs to 'Breathe", allowing vapor to move in and out of the stone with changes in humidity, moisture transfer from a slab, and moisture from mopping (through grout joints).
When marble (including all natural polished stone) cannot breathe, it begins to deteriorate, eventually causing the marble to crumble and fail.
This processed was used in Las Vegas Casinos and many marble floors needed to be replaced.
Best suggestion is using a pH neutral cleaner for natural stone maintenance like HMK P24 Stone Soap.
