New Vct

Getting ready to quote sealing and waxing a new building that will have VCT.

Is there any wax, lubricant or ? on the VCT when it comes out of the box? i.e. will it need scrubbed before I seal/wax?

Thanks!
Wil

yes generally there is a factory finish that needs to be scrubbed off prior to your first seal and wax

well, it depends...

Some say you absolutely must strip new tile, others say you don't. I have an account that has been openning several new stores in my area that does not require that we strip it. In fact, if we can catch the floor before the floor get dirty, like the day after the tile is layed, we can just sweep it, damp mop it, and wax it. That being said, IT NEVER goes that way. In which case, 5-7 days after the installation we can just scrub it with blue pads and wax it. Now, that being said, Armstrong tile comes with a Johnson Diversey sealer on it, therefore it is compatable with any JD wax, which is what we use.

Another thing that needs to be considered is how long has the floor been down? Depending on what kind of glue they used, it may need to cure for weeks before you can flood the floor with stripper. If that is not a possible to wait that long, you might want to just scrub it and not flood it, or have someone sign a waiver of liability if the tiles pop.

Hope this helps.

Yes, scrub it with a light stripper solution before you lay finish.
