Smile Hello to all!!

Desilu here,

My husband and I have recently started a cleaning business in Virginia. We are specializing in new construction. Things have been going smoothly as far as feedback and potential clients. I have one major question. When dealing with home builders and contractors are you usually required to carry workers comp insurance? We are licensed and bonded but since it is just my husband and I we don't have workers comp right now (it is very expensive). Does anyone have any experience or details about this. I am hearing that most contractors require you to have it. Can't we just sign a waiver or something??? Please help. Thanks

IMO you might be able to convince 1 out of every 1000 builders that your signing a waiver will protect them, the other 999 will want you to have your own workman's comp policy.

Why are you struggling with the thought of getting one? It is a write off and you add the costs into your pricing.

welcome from another virginian,

in my experience here it is necessary. i didn't think i needed it since i am the only "employee" in my firm but soon found out that i did. lost a HUGE account when i first started out because i didn't have it.

they said they could not cover me on theirs and a waiver was not even an option.

Thanks from Desilu

Thank you both for the info. I am starting to get quotes for the workers comp. I appreciate the heads up
