Presently I drive a transit bus from 6:30am until 7:30-8:00pm. I have a 3 hour break from 9-12. It is horrible. Very stressful. The equipment is in poor condition and filthy. Imagine a 1997 coach with 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 miles on it, with a filthy chemical lav on a hot summer day after some commuter dropped a deuce on your first trip so you are stuck with it all day. This morning while on break I can't idle. It hit 100 inside. Even while running the rest of the day it never got below 76. I can't wait for summer #6. I can bundle up and take 25 degree winters. I have to stay with the bus while on break far from the depot in a remote commercial area.
Trash and filth such as used diabetic test strips,
tooth floss things and gum on the seats and floors. If I touch it, I'm in trouble with the union. Why they can't get me a penny raise for three years in a row is just "unfortunate" but doing another union brother's job, that's unforgivable. To say I'm at my wit's end would be an understatement. I am either going to start a carpet cleaning biz as a sideline or go work for a not-for-profit that employs the mentally disabled (which I'm becoming myself) as a crew leader or maybe even a contract manager if I am lucky. I'm here to build as much knowledge as possible. I'm attracted to the industry because I am repulsed by the thing I am forced to spend 13+ hours per day in.
Thanks for letting me unload some baggage, I do carry waaaay too much!
