New on Board

Former commercial cleaning franchise owner. After a few years out of cleaning business, I'm going back in ( NO Franchise). I owned another business during that time. So I have a few tips to offer, plus I'm sure I'll learn some more here.

What type of other business did you own? It's the other businesses that excite me.

I've tried to own a business doing everything I've ever wanted to do. I only live once so I want to try it all. Normally I either see they are more work than what I want to do (or keep track of other doing) or that they don't make as much money as I want them to so I either sell them or give them away. Cleaning has been my rock although I met a guy that is kind of in the same field as my buddy (he is an engineer). Together they can make a LOT of money together, so I told each separately that I want my cut. The first job they got is a $7.4 million contract from the government and we get 8% of that so it will be an easy $200k for me. And after that I get $1500 a month.

The reason it is so important for them to know each other is because Willis couldn't take the contracts because he had no one to build these parts. And Mike couldn't bid the jobs because you have to be a veteran in order for the government to award you the jobs. So I get paid my $1500 a month for being the middleman.

I am also putting together a mowing business. I had it, then I gave it to my worker, now I have it back but I'm changing it all. I thought it was going to be ready to go last week but we ran in to an insurance problem. It is structured like not many others so we are having technical difficulties. So we might just roll it out next year, now sure yet.

Surety Business ( Bail ) I got into after I sold my franchise. I enjoy the current business, but I also enjoyed the cleaning business. So now, I can do both.

Hi Janitologist! Sounds like you must know a lot about cleaning after owning a franchise. Good luck on being independent! I'm just new to the biz and haven't officially set up my business yet. I have enough clients to bring in almost enough to support myself now.
