New from St. Charles, MO
My name is Zach and I am looking at starting a commercial cleaning business here in the St . Louis, MO area. I recently had a daughter and am absolutely burned out with the automotive industry Ive been in for 5 years and would like to get out on my own. In the past I worked as a custodian for a local city and in the limousine/auto detailing business for 8 years. Im 30 years old now and need to get to the point of netting $50,000 or more a year. My current schedule is 4 days a week 10 hour shifts so I have time on my hands to start to build a small cleaning business. I would like to focus on the commercial side.
I could definitely use some advice from someone who knows the business. There is a lot to a business and have always dreamed of running my own, but the reality is that it seems difficult to get your feet wet. Here are my questions:
1. Money: Im doing this to support my family and because It is exciting. At first my wife and I will be the only employees. I need to make $50-60,000 a year (before taxes but after overhead) to survive. Is this achievable for 1-2 people full time or will I need to plan on have "X" employees? This question is assuming full time and a lot of hours to get it going. My plan is to start it part time until I can get enough business to quite my current job (6 months to 2 years down the road??)
2. Ive got a great track record for being liked and do great with customer service and business relationship building. Before I spend money and time setting up my business and getting insured (which ive done twice in the past) what is the primary means of gaining initial business?
I have a lot of notes and questions, but seeing what I need to do to gain business and to meet my income needs are the biggest concerns I have.
