Thumbs up What is Scotch Guarding and its benefits?

What is Scotch Guarding and its benefits?

It is very important that your new or newly cleaned carpet, rug, upholstery with any kind of fabric get scotch guarded right away before using them in order to get the most benefit out of stain guarding which protected them against everyday dust dirt and spills.

The Effectiveness OfScotch Guarding:

1. Resists Soiling.
2. Spills can be blotted away more easily.
3. Long-lasting protection.
4. Easier, more effective cleaning.
5. Preserves the carpetís appearance.

well Mr 5 Star Cleaning, looks like you make a lot of posts on this board. Its pretty generic information though, so are you really looking to help people out or is it to give you more backlinks to your website to get a better rating on Google?

Anyway as a Professional Carpet Cleaner of over 30 years I have to give people here some information in the real world so that they can be better educated.

What is Scotch Guarding and its benefits?

It is very important that your new or newly cleaned carpet, rug, upholstery with any kind of fabric get scotch guarded right away before using them in order to get the most benefit out of stain guarding which protected them against everyday dust dirt and spills. Applying ScotchGuard before using them, like when they are new? Why? Almost all new carpet has Carpet Protection added in the Mill.

The Effectiveness Of Scotch Guarding:

1. Resists Soiling. Key word, RESISTS. Carpet Protector (one brand is ScotchGuard) does to a small degree resist soil. However this implies that the carpet will stay clean longer, which is NOT TRUE! The carpet will still get dirty and need to be cleaned at regular intervals.
2. Spills can be blotted away more easily. Yes, liquid spills will be easier to remove if Protector is applied vs no Protector applied.
3. Long-lasting protection. The truth? Protector applied on new carpet in the Mill will last between 2-5 years depending on how much wear the carpet gets. Protector applied by a Professional Cleaner will last maybe 1 year and then wears off. Why the difference? Because once a carpet is installed, all of the temperature/humidity/etc controls made in a mill cant be duplicated in the home. In addition a Professional cleaner is now applying a Protector to the tops of the fibers, not coating the entire fiber from top to bottom.
4. Easier, more effective cleaning. The truth? By the time it ready for the next cleaning, most if not all of the Protector applied by a Professional Cleaner has worn off. If it wasnt, why would the Professional cleaner want to reapply it?
5. Preserves the carpet’s appearance. The truth? if you cleaned an entire room and applied protector to 1/2 and not the other 1/2 at the end of a year you would not be able to tell which 1/2 had the protector applied.

How do I know this? Well 30 years of being a Carpet Cleaning professional helps but at one point we tested 8 different carpet protectors. We cleaned a large piece of carpet and taped off 9 areas. then applied the 8 different protectors to 8 areas and did not apply protector to the last area. Then we placed the carpet in our shop for 3 months and had all kinds of foot traffic on it to make it resoil. Then we tested the 9 different areas for liquid spills, solid spills and overall appearance after recleaning. What we found was that the ScotchGuard and Teflon brands (the most popular 2 brands applied by Professional cleaners) ranked towards the bottom!

Look, the carpet manufacturers are now making the carpet more spot and spill resistant than ever. Just going in to each house and telling the customer they need protector applied only benefits the Professional Cleaner (makes more money) The truth is that most will not see a benefit of having a protector applied. Some people that have a problem with a lot of spills MAY see a benefit.

It is more prudent to offer it to a customer if they will see a benefit.

But then thats the difference between you and me. I look out for the customer, you look out for your pocketbook.
