Cleaning co-operatives promoting social & economic justice.

For those of you that do residential house cleaning, what are your thoughts / opinions on cleaning co-operatives such as this (see link)? Their prices are posted as well. Their local Yelp listing shows 37 reviews & a 4-1/2 start rating. I came across another similar organization based in California a number of months back.

The gist of what they do (excerpt from their 'About Us' page) follows:

"Si Se Puede! Women's Cooperative, We Can Do It! Inc. was founded in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, in August, 2006, to bring together immigrant women to create a women-run, women-owned, eco-friendly housecleaning business. The cooperative is designed to create living wage jobs that will be done in a safe and healthy environment, as well as to providesocial supports and educational opportunities for our members.

We have 51 members, all of whom have completed a probationary training. All of the members whom are all immigrants, have an equal voice in decisions regarding policies and operations. In addition, members work together to promote the business and meet bi-weekly for on-going training and support.

The 14 founding members chose the name Si Se Puede! Women's Cooperative, We Can Do It! Inc. because we feel that it embodies the spirit of the group. Si Se Puede also has resonance for many of our members as the phrase is often heard in political and social change movements throughout Central and South America."

Seems racist and sexist to me. Now personally the only time I would hire someone like that is if they came in topless also. That would be the only reason for being only females.... right?

Topless females notwithstanding....

As I did more reading at the media links posted in their About Us page, I came across this little kicker from a media write up in 12/2008:

"The women, many of them illegal immigrants, are becoming experts in running their own American business. But Jean-Francois says lawyers assured them that they weren't breaking any laws."

So ILLEGAL women that are being lauded for running an AMERICAN business. They specifically request that payment be made to them in cash as well right there on their website. A little more digging turned up that the community organizing / social services group who oversees and supports this operation is funded with government dollars (various city agencies + FEMA) and receives more dollars from big foundations and corporations (Verizon, State Farm, Liz Claiborne, etc). Looks like a nice little snapshot of immigration 'reform' that I am sure is to come courtesy of other twisted 'Americans' in high places.
