For natural and engineered stone surfaces, use a cleaner that is pH neutral. The Internet is filled with suggestions for people to use chemicals that can actually harm the surface. Using a cleaner that is designed to work on specific surfaces is what we recommend.
For natural stone countertops, we encourage a cleaning routine that includes the following:
- Initially seal the natural stone surface.
- Clean the surface using a pH neutral cleaner so that the sealer is not destroyed by the cleaner.
- Use a fortified stone polish that contains sealer periodically (weekly or every two weeks) so the stone is sealed a little every time the surface is polished.
This way, the more difficult task of resealing is delayed or even avoided (in the event that the polish is used frequently enough).
