Question Residential Key Control

In an effort to become 100% paperless this year, (now creating tagged loose keys) can you share key control process? Storing, dispatching, carrying, usage, and returning to office. What has been successful for you?

Coded tagged keys, stored in a locked key box. My # 1 responsibility to a customer who has given us an independent way to enter their home (I have keys to 95% of accounts) is to safeguard those keys as if my life depends on it. That means keys go out in the morning and must be returned by the end of the work day, no exceptions. I use carabiners that attach to the car keychains... so all keys stay together, it's much easier to misplace loose keys than a keychain. I'm the only one who has ever lost a key and that's because I neglected to follow my own rule about loose keys. After locking up bathrooms at a community baseball field I threw the key on my car seat and I never saw that key again. It was quite embarrassing and I really could have kicked myself for thinking I was smarter than me 😉!

LOL! THis last year, I somehow misplaced a good customer's key. My guess is that it somehow fell BEHIND the dashboard of my caqr, since I store all keys in a little teeny glove box, the place you put your car registration. I do not have employees, so only I am responsible for keys. I was upset this happened and yes, embarrassed. The customer was completely gracious about it, as I had worked for them for over a year and they what kind of person I am. But I still felt bad about it.
