Spilled Battery Acid on my dog's bed

Hello, I had a backpack that contained old AA batteries (Alkaline) in the side pockets, they were leaking and thusly leaked onto my dog's small bed that sits next to my own on accident. In haste I threw the dog bed into the washing machine on the highest settings, but I heard somewhere I was supposed to neutralize the acid with baking soda? Is this true, and if I skipped this step will the dog bed be safe for my dog to use once it is out of the washing machine? Sorry if this was not the correct place to post this, I'm new here so forgive me.

You already tossed it in the washing machine which shouldn't hurt. The acid might already have damaged the fibers before you
ever got to the machine.

As far as neutralizing acids go.Baking soda is ok, but so is dish soap.Soda and soap are alkaline.
