Are steam cleaning machines effective?
Are steam cleaning machines good for cleaning tiles and grout. I mean to say that are they effective enough for the purpose or do I need to use any liquids or products available in the market for the purpose? Has anyone else used the machine and got good results? Please reply.

Yes they are very useful and good because steam make easily remove the stains.

They are effective for carpet cleaning, but are not for rug cleaning. If you were to use a steam cleaner on a rug it'd melt it away.

Thank you all for your replies and detailscleaning I did not understand what you meant by "it'd melt it away". Anyways, I wanted to use the machine for tiles and grout cleaning---lets see if I succeed or not because this new house where I have shifted only recently seems to be with lots and lots of stains. Hoping against hope I will remove them all one day.

Of course it is really effective and impressive cleaning strategy to keep your home not only visibly clean but also microscopically clean. Now a days there are plenty of equipment available in the market which gives good result in cleaning your home.

Yes they totally are. I also feel that the solution you use in them makes a huge difference. I have the Bissell and when I first started using it, I was using their product line - specifically the Pet Stain Product. First of all, it is really kind of expensive and you can use a whole bottle in just minutes when you set the machine on heavy. Second, I didn't feel it really removed the stain. I ended up switching to Genesis 950 and it was not only a lot cheaper (I got a gallon for $40. If I bought that much of the Bissell Cleaner it would have cost hundreds) it cleaned so much better and you could see the difference. Not just in the stained area, but in all of the carpet. It made it look new.

So yes, these machines are fantastic, and with the right product, I would argue that it is just as effective - if not more effective - then a professional carpet cleaner. I actually know some professionals do use it themselves. Sadly, none in my area. I've asked several cleaners - when I find one that uses it, they are welcome to do my house for me. :)
