What does Eco-friendly mean anyways?

Walking through any store these days your see it everywhere on almost every bottle. “Eco-friendly” or “Green” and many other derivative of this form. What does it really mean?
Well many commercial cleaning products cause risks of respiratory, skin and eye irritations, and many are hazardous materials that need to be handled, stored and disposed of in a certain manner, in order to be safe. Not only do they pose a risk to your health and the health of your family, but the impact on the environment is significant as well. All of the chemicals go from our homes and risk contaminating our ground water supply, effecting our plants, animals….food supply etc…
When you chose eco-friendly products you are picking products that are free of these toxins and hazardous materials, making them a safer option for cleaning your home. As a result they are not harmful to your health or the environment.
What about quality? Yes, there is a bit of a craze of eco-friendly and green being advertised on all products. To avoid this “green washing” craze of the marketing world, be a good consumer. Do your research and read labels. Look for products supported by environmental agencies, Energy Star programs or ecologically conscious advocacy groups.

A lot of people have different definitions of green living, but it really all comes down to one fundamental concept.

Certainly those products should be used that do not affect the environment. Many products are available in the market which is useful for this purpose giving the same effect as that of products comprising of harmful chemicals. So thought of clean environment can only be achieved by taking steps on our own.
