Who pays when an employee breaks something?

What is your policy when an employee breaks something at a house? Does the company have to cover the total cost? Does the employee have to pay for any of it?

Hi Kim,
We do have insurance but it's a 500 dollar deductible. So if it's less then 500.00 the company pays. Accidents happen, I would never make my employee pay.
Have a good day!

If I had to guess, I don't think it's possible within the law for you to make an employee pay for a broken item. I could be wrong. But I bet if you took that employee to small claims court the judge would rule in favor of the employee to NOT have to pay.

I do know for a fact that you can NOT keep the money out of an employees check to pay for it.
