Mold can be characterized by black spots. Mold is often caused by humid conditions and lack of ventilation. Also, it is very much possible that it is being fed by a water leak somewhere inside the walls or above the ceilings. Make sure you fix that first.
You're right, exposure to mold in buildings and homes can cause serious health issues. It has also been associated with cancer. Thus, it should be taken seriously.
I at Titan Restoration deal with mold everyday. Itís important to keep in mind that killing visible mold isnít enough. A lot of DIY methods will only kill surface mold. Mold has to be remediated and a professional service is really the best option.

I agree that mold is a serious issue that needs to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, many people don't realize how prevalent mold growth is in homes especially in humid areas. Minneapolis MN is where I live gets pretty humid in the summers so mold removal and remediation is quite common in my area. Although it gets very cold in the winters so mold growth tends to die off in the winter compared to other hot and humid areas down south that rarely gets below freezing.

Quality water damage restoration to preserve, recover and restore property back to normal.

If you neglect mold, you're probably putting your health at stake. Water damage mold can overtake entire home, thus leading to unnecessary damage to the property. Make sure to remove mold from the affected area. Take precautionary measures like wearing gloves and masks to resist the entry of mold spores. Use mold cleansers or water & vinegar solution and scrub the area. Thereafter, let it dry and make the room moisture-free.
