Question Upright vs. Backpack vacuum....

....what's the general consensus on which one is more effective? I would think the mobility you'd have with a backpack vacuum would make it the winner...am I wrong?

If you can't feed 100, feed just one.

Sorry, what the heck does that have to do with the question that was asked? If all you are going to do is spam your service than don't bother.

To reply, backpack vacuums are great in most cases, I like the fact you can go from carpet, to hard floor, to steps.
But in some cases an upright is the better choice, such as a small office with little room (I have found the backpack can hit and knock over things in such an office.)

Upright vs. Backpack

For commercial applications backpacks are far superior. As J4K says above, in a tight room, you have to be careful of the backpack on your back as it will hit thigs as you turn. I have knocked pictures off of walls by not being careful. Also be sure to empty your filter often so as not to burn out your motor.

Using backpack vacuum cleaners results in less body stress than with uprights. According to results it find more efficient than uprights. Using backpack vacuum cleaners, workers were able to vacuum more than twice the area with similar levels of energy expenditure and perceived effort.

Backpacks are undeniably the better choice as far as cleaning time and body stress. Uprights would generally be more affordable, though, so for small accounts where the cleaning time won't be significantly different we tend to use uprights to lower the overhead.

I am a fan of the back pack vacs in open areas. I can rock out more area in less time. The battery powered ones can be a little heavy but other than that, no complaints.
