Why Caring and Cleaning Hardwood Floor is Important?

Hardwood floor cleaning can be a little intimidating. You have to be careful about what chemical you are putting on them. It is important to mop your floor at least twice a week especially if you have kids in your home. Here are few tips to thoroughly clean your hardwood floor.

The hardwood furniture is attractive, easier to clean , and they increase the value of your home. It’s important to remember to take care of hardwood floors, or stains can harm the beauty. Vacuuming is a must. Although hardwood floor care is easy, it can be time-consuming.

Essential care

Vacuum or sweep your floor regularly with a soft-bristled attachment or broom, especially in high-traffic areas. This prevents gritty dirt and particle buildup that can scratch the woodís surface. Donít use vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head.

Use protective window coverings to block fade-causing UV rays and excessive heat from direct sunlight. Most wood types will gradually age when not covered, so itís a good idea to rearrange rugs and furniture periodically to help it age evenly.

Tips for preventing damage

1. Keep petsí nails trimmed and their paws clean. Pets can track in substances that cause scratching and stains.
2. Use a humidifier during heating seasons to help reduce wood shrinkage and humidity between 35% and 55%.
3. Wipe up spills and spots immediately.
4. Use ice to harden tough substances like wax or chewing gum, and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper or a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the surface and wipe the area clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

What to avoid

Avoid walking on your hardwood floors with spiked or damage-heeled shoes.
Resist wet-mop, damp-mop, or cleaning your hardwood with water or other liquids.
Donít use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax, or other household products containing lemon, citrus, or tung oil, or silicon to clean floors.
Stay away from harsh cleaning aids like steel wool pads, any scouring pads containing metal, or scouring powders.
Donít use 2-in-1 cleaners that contain acrylics or urethane polish to restore gloss.

I agree with robotfree what he is saying. Proper maintenance and cleaning is very necessary for preserving the beauty of your floors. When you properly maintained your floors, it looks as beautiful as the day it was installed and for many decades later also.

Use a floor cleaner made specifically for hardwood. Of course they contain water - but so what? They are formulated to be safe and gentle on this type of floor. And for heavens sake, dont use a grubby old string mop on ANY kind of floor! You are just swishing dirty around.
