Reciprocal links vs. one-way text links

Hi All,

Google is incredibly smart, and they are now penalizing websites that have too many reciprocal links (RL's), especially when they are on one page such as a links page. At some point, I'm sorry to say, your RL-building efforts might be for nothing, and possibly even damaging. One day your site may be on page one of the SERP and the next day you might not even be able to find it. Then you might find yourself going to all your RL friends and actually asking them to remove your link from their site.

One-way text links are what you're looking for, and you're also looking for links that are on do-follow pages. Here's a link (hey, a one-way text-link!) to a page that gives a good, concise explanation of the difference between do-follow and no-follow. It also has a link to a do-follow search engine.

Forums and blogs are great places to make one-way text links to your site, but please contribute something of value when you're adding a comment! I think we're all getting tired of reading forum comments that just say "Thanks for the great article!" and then lists 17 websites at the end of the comment.

Best,

Kit Schulte, Start Your Cleaning Business the Right Way!

thank you! it's so silly to do it when you don't need to and it comes at a risk. i don't swap links yet i'm 2 result for one of the bigger keywords for my area, and i expect to be higher for others in the coming months without ever having to swap links. don't do it people. learn how to promote your website and it'll do just fine

Austin Carpet Cleaning
why would i show up on first page of google under the 4 key phrases you have chosen? you tell me?

btw, i'll remind you, you CLAIM to be an SEO EXPERT! yet get black hat seo techniques. you don't do simple white hate techniques, but you're saying you're an expert.

then you expect someone that points that out, to what, also be an expert, but where do i claim this? just because i don't have the top page of a keyword you have chosen for my site, doens't mean i am not right, that you simple are NOT and expert.

as mentioned, people should go google why link exchanging is BAD and then think twice about it. you'r giving your recomendation to this guys website, and if he goes more black hat techniques and gets punished, you will too. why run the risk when there is better alternatives?

SEO expert? you have very minimal seo on oyur website so i can't see how you'd call yourself an expert. btw, getting someone to link to you, and then not having to link back is where the real value is in links. linking between each other google will easily detect and either not give any extrea points to, or even punish the website, as this is clearly false link exchanges only designed to gain a better serp. Google give links to other sites a benefit because they see it as a sign of trust to the website linked, but when it's clearly for serp's where is the trust? there isn't any.

and another thing, linking to another website can be extremely harmful if the website is doing black hat seo techinques. imagine it like this, google comes to ask you if you know any good cleaners in the uk, you say oh yeah this guy is great, try him, google trys him, then the cleaner burns down googles office. google will hold you partially responsible as you recommended the bad cleaner.
