So my grandparents have been asking me to clean their sofas and I, for some reason unbeknownst to me accepted. They have 3 couches, and i am going to start with the small one. The small one has 3 pieces to it, the body, the back cushion, and the seat cushion. The body is made up of 60% polyester fiber batting and 40% polyurethane foam. The back cushion is 80% polyester fiber and 20% polyurethane foam. Finally, the seat cushion is 90% polyurethane foam and 10% polyester fiber batting. So how do i go about cleaning this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
You can try cleaning the couch yourself but you have to be really careful about it.
- Start with vacuuming the sofa to remove the dust. Remove the detachable cushions for a comprehensive cleaning. You can also sprinkle some baking powder before vacuuming to add a deodorizing effect.

- Now, if your sofa's fabric can withstand water, make a solution of 1 teaspoon mild laundry detergent, 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 1 quart of warm water.Use a light dabbing motion to apply the solution with a microfiber towel following up with a clean cloth dipped and wrung out with cold fresh water to rinse away the solution.

Hope that helps.

Sharon Alex There are professional on demand home services company who perform a chemical foam treatment to shampoo the sofa & dry it with an extraction machine.
For sofas & chairs that are upholstered with leather, they perform a treatment using leather cleaning cream.
The sofa will be moist for 1-2 hours after treatment, and you will experience a new look to your sofa with a very minimal amount.

Read this to understand why you need a professional cleaning team to clean up your sofa.

Hope this helps!
Cheers!

WHBest If there are new stains, blot them as soon as possible. Don't scrub...this will break up the fibers and cause damage. If there are old stains, it's best to hire a professional who knows what they are doing. They have special equipment that will remove any stains, dirt, germs, and pet dander from the furniture and keep it smelling great.

Hire a Pro

If your grandparents want their furniture cleaned right they'll need to hire a professional. You don't have the correct equipment to clean the couches correctly.

Ethan Jones The sofas come in a variety of materials, from cotton upholstery to leather. To clean the sofa, Vacuum cleaner can be the starting option. The stains must be cleaned immediately to avoid permanent spots. Professional cleaners often charge fees for sofa cleaning but give satisfactory results and make the sofa look new after regular use also.

gabrielnagy Cleaning sofas and fabrics is a bit different than carpet cleaning as fabrics are made of more water sensitive fibers..

ftgjr There are many ways you can clean upholstery. The type of material and soil load, will determine what method you should use. We clean a lot of fine fabrics. Most of them aren't too dirty and only needs a freshening up. We will either shampoo them, after dry vacuuming of course, or use a neutral pH pre-spray and extract with our Dri-Master upholstery tool. We use a Butler System truck mount and can lower the RPM. We will use fans to speed up the drying. If the material is velvet or ultra suede, we will brush the material in one direction. We also use a solvent based protector, which dries fast.

lauraantypina Sofa cleaning is easy compared to tile or floor cleaning. You can use vacuum cleaner to clean it from dust and dirt. You have not enough time, you can simply hire professionals.

mervynpails Cleaning sofas are not the big issue but before cleaning, you must read manufacturer's instructions. When you find some stains on your sofas, you can use cleansers. For removing dust and dirt, you can simply go for vacuum cleaner.

ackleysmith I had face the same problem in my couch. So I tried to vacuum up first and spray rubbing alcohol onto the dirt area It evaporates much quicker than water and rubbing with a clean and soft scrub sponge in a circular motion. After using this method if the stain still remaining then using Genesis 950 it will works to attain into the stain, split the stain's from the stain area or remove the old stains.

linchdaniel If you love to use candles in your family's room or cousin area always make sure to position them on a candlestick or plate because it will help you to prevent wax from leaking on your furnishings.

rotezlue There are lot of things which are more costlier in our houses such as sofas and other valuable classic furniture. So to take care such kind of precious things, we should hire professional house cleaning companies.

katty Hey guys, this is right that if you have sofas that are very costly and imported you must hire a professional cleaning service provider. He can only understand the needs of your couch as well as you. You never give your cleaning work to anyone as they may destroy it.

Omg it is very important that they do nothing but higher a professional for this task. If not some very bad things can happen that are not limited to not getting it clean. Sometimes it can end up worse than it was to start with so definitely proceed with caution.

Cleaning upholstery

I use Genesis 950 for my upholstery. I have done it a couple different ways.

The first way is with a carpet shampooer. My machine has 2 compartments. One for water, one for formula. I put the 950 in the formula section. I should also tell you this only works if you have an attachment on your machine. I then use the attachment and go over the furniture with it.

The second way is by hand. I mix the 950 & water in a spray bottle, spray the area I am cleaning, then go over it with a sponge - scrubbing the stained areas harder.

Generally I do it by hand when I am doing a real thorough job or when the stains are bigger. I usually use the machine when I am doing the carpets and have it out.

My cushions do come off. I wash those in the washing machine with 1/4 cup of the Genesis 950. However it is very important you never dry the cushion covers in the dryer or they may shrink. I always air dry them.
