t.peterson your welcome. I believe he will be much happier knowing that once the doors are refinished that they will be preserved by the finish and that he can prevent any future damage until the home is occupied by the home owners (or longer)

unnamed Thanks sooo much for your advice. The builder has already forked out $1500.00 to us just for trying to clean these doors. I will call him tommorrow and recommend your advice. Thanks a lot!

t.peterson With all of that going on your best bet is to tell the builder/developer that a professional metal polisher is going to need to be called in to professionally remove an even thin layer of the brass using a high speed polishing wheel and polishing rouge.

A professional knows that all of this work needs to be done wearing gloves since perspiration and body oils on your skin can easily damage the freshly polished brass. Once they have resurfaced the brass they will seal it with a urathane finish to help to protect it from future damage. This step too is not something that you want to be held accountable for since if not properly applied the door(s) will continue to have problems.

Do not even think of doing this yourself - call in the professionals. This is not a cleaning issue this calls for a metal specialist.

Help with cleaning bronze doors

There are sooo many problems that I don't know where to start, I am just thrilled to find someone who has done it before. We have actually tryed that cleaner and it didn't work. These are 1/2 million dollar doors from Italy and they were protected with foam covers during part of the building, but the protectant cover was removed when they had to make the curve of the stucco up to the door and it was replaced with plastic sheets taped door. The tape had discolored the doors and left a film. Ths stucco blew under plastic and distroyed the glass because stucco guy tryed to wipe off with hand, BIG MISTAKE. We are picking off stucco with our nails and a toothbrush, but even that scratches doors. The house is all tile and there is also wax, stripper and who knows what all over bottom of doors. The builder has had us trying to remove it and we have finally started using no scratch pads, goof off and krud kutter, not really knowing if this is safe. The builder is desperate for any help because he doesn't want to loose any more money on these doors. We also think there may be bronze disease in a couple of spots. HELP!!!!!! I would just love to here your experience so maybe I could use any advise.
