I was reading an SEO article today and thought I would share the meat of it:
1) Easy to remember, because drivers won't be able to write them down.
2) No hyphens or non dot-com TLDs - drivers will forget hyphens, and probably type in the .com even if you advertised ".net".
3) No easy-to-confuse variations that you don't own. (E.g., plural/singular variants when applicable).
4) Relevant to the buyer's interest or need.
So... does your domain pass the billboard test?

Hi Guys

I agree with what Nathan has posted, but it does not mater so much when you are using a site that you promote though search engines.

This comes good when you use FREE web space, many providers that give free web space will also provide you with a free sub domain name.

I use these to test ideas and sites out.

Another thing to remember when dealing with domain names is try to keep them around 3 to 4 syllables. Also for SEO (search engine optimmization) try to make your name with your keyword included. IE My business name is New Jersey Window Washing. So are all my websites. These words are the most common someone in new jersey will search for on google. Once you have SEO'd your site and submitted a site map, give it 3 or 4 months and you will start to list on google.

Ray, I see that you have 4 domains and they are all the same site. You should pick one domain and redirect the other domains to the single domain otherwise search engines can see it as duplicate content.

Yeah I know it was a major concern for me. I worried like hell about getting placed in their mystery sandbox they claim they don't have. But here's how I get around it for now. Not 100% sure if it works but this what I have been told to do. Submit my sitemap with a frequency change setting of every week. I have yet to see if it works 100% as I am constantly building the other 3 sites (njwindowwashing.com is the main site). I want to have them all to be 100% independent of each other with totally different content but mainly all pointing the customer to my business. LOL HOPE that is clear. Right now I'm only getting Google traffic from njwindowcleaning out of the 3. The main does pretty well, and njwindowcleaning is catching up which is good :).

I was 301 redirecting but just hate doing that and pulling off any Google traffic with one is near impossible. Google wont spank me yet as they are legit separate sites. But I know they will spank be if I don't start getting most of it changed with in 3 or 4 months. I'll get it done one day lol.
