I have found that a lot of our carpet cleaning jobs have issues with pet stains & odor. We have had success, dealing with these type of situations. Most pet stains are visible to the eye. once we locate the spots, we will pre-treat with an enzyme spotter. We allow at least 10-15 minutes for the enzyme to do its work and thoroughly flush with our truck mount. If the stains are severe. I will apply a larger amount of the enzyme and use a sub-surface extractor (water claw) to remove as much of the contamination as possible.

We are finding that treating severe pet urine problems is much like doing water damage. Pulling the carpet up, removing the padding, treating the floor, etc,etc. We use different products depending on the situation. From OSR, to modifier.

• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1 -2 drop liquid dish soap

Directions:

1. Mix all together gently and pour in a spray bottle.
2. Do no shake up this mix or you may have a lot of foam. I have also used a watering can this works well also.
3. Spray onto urine stain and walk away. Allow to dry. No need to rub or scrub the area. For tough odors you may have to repeat.
4. I would also check your fabric/carpet for color fastness before using due to the peroixide content. I have never had any problems with any fabric changing colors from this mix.

Household cleaners are probably the most readily available tools in combating pet stains. Everybody has some sort of carpet cleaner under the kitchen sink, and they are usually the first thing used in the attempt to clean pet stains. This can be a terrible mistake for several reasons. These cleaners are typically designed to clean small surface areas. Pet stains do not just stain the surface of carpet, they get below the surface and can even spread into or under the padding. A traditional spray type cleaner will not get deep into the carpet. They might remove some visual staining, but they will not impact the odor created. There is also a possibility that the chemistry in the cleaner may cause staining or discoloration. They are also soap based. The soaps will actually promote stain buildup. Rather then break apart the stain, they can trap stains in the carpet fibers. In the photo to the right, several attempts were made to combat pet accidents. These accidents did not just include urine marks, but also marks where food was regurgitated by pets and the dye from the food left marks. For the most part, the traditional spray cleaners did remove colored stains, but in the wake of cleaning, they left gray blotches of their own.
