I have found that a lot of our carpet cleaning jobs have issues with pet stains & odor. We have had success, dealing with these type of situations. Most pet stains are visible to the eye. once we locate the spots, we will pre-treat with an enzyme spotter. We allow at least 10-15 minutes for the enzyme to do its work and thoroughly flush with our truck mount. If the stains are severe. I will apply a larger amount of the enzyme and use a sub-surface extractor (water claw) to remove as much of the contamination as possible.

We have helped a lot of homeowner and realtors sell homes.

A pet is like a member of the family -- one that occasionally has accidents indoors. Follow these tips to remove pet stains.

The first step in removing pet stains is to identify the stained material.***

Synthetic fabrics such as Acrylic Fabric, Modacrylic, Nylon, Olefin or Polyester

We are finding that treating severe pet urine problems is much like doing water damage. Pulling the carpet up, removing the padding, treating the floor, etc, etc. We use different products depending on the situation. From OSR, to modifier.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8 ounce) bottle hydrogen peroxide
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 -2 drop liquid dish soap

Directions:

  1. Mix all together gently and pour in a spray bottle.
  2. Do no shake up this mix or you may have a lot of foam. I have also used a watering can this works well also.
  3. Spray onto urine stain and walk away. Allow to dry. No need to rub or scrub the area. For tough odors you may have to repeat.
  4. I would also check your fabric/carpet for color fastness before using due to the peroixide content. I have never had any problems with any fabric changing colors from this mix.

pet odor and stain control

Cleaning your pets home

Many of our customers have dogs so they usually have odors, stains, and fur wherever you look. It doesn't have to be this way! Our technicians can recommend ways to minimize odors, protect your carpet and upholstery and show you how to keep your home aromatic and germ free.

Addressing and treating bacteria will help to eliminate odors. A professional quality odor or urine treatment can kill more than 99 percent of common germs, even cold and flu viruses.

The best way to remove hair from your furniture is by using a standard vacuum cleaner with a turbine nozzle attachment; guide it along these areas until all the hair is gone. A common lint roller will do the job as well.

USR (Urine Stain Remover)

Urine can be a difficult spot to remove. The more time that stains are allowed to set, the more likely the spot may be permanent. Female pets usually have higher levels of nitrogen in their urine. Nitrogen attacks the dyes in the carpet, usually leaving a lighter stain on the carpet. Some urine stains are not noticed until after the carpet is cleaned. If there is a true stain, this can only be corrected by dying the carpet. Stains are permanent otherwise.

Pet Odor Control

It’s usually not enough to penetrate the carpet padding, but it’s enough to leave unsightly yellow stains..

Using an effective urine stain and odor remover such as Matrix® Bad Dog Urine Stain Remover will be highly effective on these stains and odors. This acidic, hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner removes urine stains on carpet and upholstery. So you can apply it, move on to your next job, and let it do the work.

Household cleaners are probably the most readily available tools in combating pet stains. Everybody has some sort of carpet cleaner under the kitchen sink, and they are usually the first thing used in the attempt to clean pet stains. This can be a terrible mistake for several reasons. These cleaners are typically designed to clean small surface areas. Pet stains do not just stain the surface of carpet, they get below the surface and can even spread into or under the padding. A traditional spray type cleaner will not get deep into the carpet. They might remove some visual staining, but they will not impact the odor created. There is also a possibility that the chemistry in the cleaner may cause staining or discoloration. They are also soap based. The soaps will actually promote stain buildup. Rather then break apart the stain, they can trap stains in the carpet fibers. In the photo to the right, several attempts were made to combat pet accidents. These accidents did not just include urine marks, but also marks where food was regurgitated by pets and the dye from the food left marks. For the most part, the traditional spray cleaners did remove colored stains, but in the wake of cleaning, they left gray blotches of their own. They made no impact on the scent coming from below the surface at all, and the odor was intolerable.

Carpets are a beautiful addition to a house but with pets, children and visitors running around, they become death traps of dirt and germs.
It is very important to have your carpets cleaned regularly, but of course it is really inconvienent to wait for hours to dry so many people put it off for as along as possible. DON'T LEAVE IT. The health of your family is at risk, get your carpets and furniture cleaned.

Urine decontamination requires more than normal cleaning because there might be many layers and surfaces that can be affected. There is a difference between cleaning urine stains and treating the pet odor. The actions taken depend upon the severity of the issue.
