Not sure just how many of you have employess, however if you do here is something to consider -

Praise is a business owners most powerful tool.

Like most tools, you have to make sure that you are handling it correctly, in order to achive optimal results.

Here are two suggestions for how to optiamally offer priase to an employee -

1) Don't hide your praises behind criticisms. The sandwiched technique rarely sounds sincere and the employee is more likely to remember the criticism and assume that the praise was mentioned only to soften the blow.

2) Be specific. Be precise, vague global praises such as "your doing a great job" are less meaningful than precise descriptions such as "Without your excellent work we would not of been able to add 3 new accounts this week, thank you"

Couldnt agree more

Couldn't agree more, we are all quick to point out someone's failings or misdemeanours but not so quick to praise people and encourage positive behaviour. As well as being a polite and human thing to do it actually motivates people.;)

Too much praise a good Thing

I agree that praise is one of the strongest tools in a small business owners book, but you have to be careful that you don't do it so much that your employees don't take advantage of you.

Appreciation for good work is very necessary to maintain the spirit of working efficiently among employees. It also helps in building good relations between the team and leaders.

Running a business involves relationship, people, time and effort. In every group, there is a relationship that you create. It could be a small group or a large one. In order to make your business grow and make it prosperous all throughout. You have to observe proper decorum not only with your customers/buyers but also with your employees, which is the most important. A business would never work without these employees. You can not run the business with your own self, your employees are the ones doing it for you. What a business owner will do is to pay for employees effort. Without an employee/sales person, you could not sell any product of yours, not unless you alone do the sales talk. All employees deserves to be loved, and cared for by the employers. These people are doing their best in order to serve their employee the best what they can be. A simple thank you, tap on the back and said "Good Job!" and the likes will warn the hearts of every employee and will encourage them to do better each and every day as they go to work. This is a secret of a good businessman.

Aww the sandwich technique..This is what they teach in all academic settings. Sometimes it works, well other times it fails. It depends on the particular person's typical reactions to criticism. Once you get to know an employee you can determine the best way to praise or let them know how to change something.
