Hi there,

My wife and I are starting a house cleaning business in California and we plan on hiring cleaners. Is there a standard independent contractor agreement for cleaners in CA?

Congrats on your new business!

I don't think there is a standard independent contractor agreement, a lot of it is just templates online that you can use/modify for your needs, but it never hurts to check with state laws in CA regarding your business.

Just make sure to notify your insurance, bond, workman's comp, etc. of your new employees and have a payroll system set up.

independent contractors are NOT employees. You will not have ANY control over independent contractors. You cannot provide their cleaning supplies or tell the when to show up, so why use independent contractors? One form you WILL need if you use independent contractors is a NON COMPETE CLAUSE. if you dont have that, the independent contractor can take your client.

PLUS if the IRS finds out and they deem them employees, you will be out of business fast.
